Workshop Descriptions

FULLY BOOK! Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese decorative cord used for generations to adorn gifts and envelopes, expressing gratitude, respect and good wishes for the person receiving it. What began as a practical way to secure gifts has grown into a refined art form, where every knot carries meaning, from new beginnings to lasting relationships. It reflects a distinctly Japanese way of showing care, where the presentation of a gift is as thoughtful as the gift itself. Beyond its cultural roots, Mizuhiki offers real benefits for those who take the time to learn it. Working with the cords requires focus, patience and a steady hand, making it a naturally mindful practice. Slowing down to shape each knot has a calming effect, much like other traditional crafts such as Tsumami Zaiku fabric folding or Sashiko hand stitching. These crafts share a common thread: they invite you to step away from the rush of daily life and be fully present, working with your hands rather than your screen. Mizuhiki also pairs beautifully with other Japanese craft traditions, such s Tsumami Zaiku flowers, coming together to create layered, meaningful pieces like earrings, pendants and gift wrapping. This workshop is led by Japanese craft expert Ms. Tomoko Ota, assisted by certified trainers Agnes Tay and Agnes Thing. You'll learn about Mizuhiki's history and original role in Japanese culture, then move on to Ume musubi, a traditional knot shaped like a plum blossom. Tied firmly and difficult to undo, it's often associated with strong bonds and lasting relationships. Finally, transform your Ume musubi into your very own pair of earrings, made with your own hands. 🌸 Learn the history and meaning of Mizuhiki 🌸 Experience a mindful, hands on craft process 🌸 Learn Ume musubi, the plum blossom knot 🌸 Make two pairs of earrings, with extra practice included 🌸 Discover how Mizuhiki connects with Tsumami Zaiku and Sashiko 🌸 Guided by Founder and Craft Expert Tomoko Ota 🌸 Suitable for beginners, no experience required Sign up now and bring a piece of Japanese tradition into your everyday life.
