Tsumami Zaiku Trainer, Intermediate Level

Ong Hui Ying

Hui Ying's journey into Tsumami Zaiku began with a single social media post and was drawn in by the sight of intricate floral creations crafted from tiny, vibrant pieces of Chusen fabric.  She was captivated by how something so delicate could carry so much beauty, meaning, and cultural depth. It was a feeling that resonated deeply. Having grown up immersed in Japanese dramas, anime, music, and the charming world of Japanese merchandise and snacks, Hui Ying had always been naturally attuned to the small, meaningful details that define Japanese aesthetics, the interplay of colour, emotion, and quiet storytelling. Tsumami Zaiku felt like a natural homecoming, a place where her childhood inspirations and her love for eye-pleasing, thoughtfully crafted things could finally find their most beautiful expression.

Through the craft, she has found a space for creativity, harmony, and deeply personal expression and it is this gift she hopes to pass on. Guided by the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi which finding beauty in simplicity and imperfection, and the spirit of Mottainai which is a deep respect for materials and a commitment to zero waste, she is passionate about sharing these timeless values with participants and future generations alike.
