Hachidori
Hachidori Zōri (草履) by textile artist Yuko Ogawa reimagines traditional Japanese sandals as soft fabric slippers, carrying centuries-old kimono heritage into modern everyday comfort.
Zōri (草履) are traditional Japanese sandals originally crafted from natural materials such as grass and straw, and traditionally worn outdoors with kimono. Yuko transforms this heritage by creating cloth zōri using familiar fabrics and seasonal Japanese patterns, making them gentle, practical, and deeply rooted in tradition.
Living in a renovated traditional farmhouse, Yuko creates with the philosophy of “shaping one’s own life with one’s own hands.” Her handmade work naturally grew from her admiration for a slow, rural way of living.
